What type of Ting user are you?

We’re not much into typecasting. We think that smart people appreciate a smarter approach to mobile service and so that’s what we endeavor to provide.

Techies, families and seniors alike have discovered that simply paying for what they use is the most sensible approach to cell phone service.

That said, there are a few broad archetypes we’ve noticed from our conversations with Ting customers. Your own approach to mobile might not fit neatly into one of these convenient pigeonholes. Chances are, you’ll recognize something of yourself in at least one of these categories, though. Let us know which user(s) you relate to in the comments below!

Whatever the case, if you’re looking to spend $25 a month or less on your cell phone bill, we’d argue there’s no better way than Ting.

Meet Ting Internet Customer, Ross McDermott

We’d like to take a moment to introduce you to one of our Ting Internet Customers in Charlottesville, VA.

Meet Ross McDermott, founder of Surface Below Media, a video production company specializing in documentaries, music videos, art films and commercials (click those links to view samples of the kind of work they do). His team operates from a studio space shared by a collective of artists and artisans. The studio gets Ting’s crazy fast fiber Internet, so Surface Below Media and others in the coworking space all get access. Naturally, we wanted to hear how the fastest Internet access around is working out for them.

Before they moved to the studio space downtown, Ross tells us they were paying for the fastest Internet Comcast could provide to their office. But it just wasn’t fast enough to keep up with huge file transfers during video production. They were also pretty disappointed in the quality of customer service they’d been receiving from local Internet companies. So they switched to Ting last August, and everything changed.

Three cheers for Champion Brewing Company

Even before he got into home-brewing as a hobby, Hunter Smith thought it would be great to own and operate a brewery one day. Like many craft brewers, he says, he began with home-brewing and worked his way into the business, driven by “punk rock values” and sincere passion.

And business is good when the business is good beer.

As one of Virginia’s fastest-growing breweries, Champion Brewing Company has to brew a lot of beer to keep up with demand. In fact, they brew over 10,000 barrels a year, and delivering the best and freshest product is something Champion Brewing takes seriously. That’s where Ting’s crazy fast Internet comes in.

#TEAMTING – Zev Paiss

#TEAMTING is a series where we showcase some of our favorite Ting customer stories, whether from an individual, a family, a tech-head or a retiree.

Zev and his family live in Colorado and have been with Ting for just under two years. They currently use a mixture of iPhones on Ting’s CDMA (Sprint) network offering.

Back in January of 2013, Zev began looking for affordable cell phone carriers online.

“I realized I needed access for business calls and family connections. Ting became our first and only phone company. I love the customer service and great prices.”

With four phones under one Ting account, Zev sets alerts in the Ting online account dashboard to easily keep track of his family’s usage. By setting specific phone thresholds for messages and megabytes, he can ensure his monthly bill stays within his allocated budget.

“The price is right and we love supporting a smaller innovative company.”

#TEAMTING – Steve Schiffer

#TEAMTING is a series where we showcase some of our favorite Ting customer stories, whether from an individual, a family, a tech-head or a retiree.

The Schiffer family lives in Idaho and uses Ting for all their mobile needs.

Steve explains that with six phones under one Ting account, he saves at least $80 a month on his family cell phone bill. They use a mixture of iPhone and Android smartphones.

“Ting is the perfect pay for your usage system that accepts a wide array of devices. I pay less for our family’s phones than many who are still using flip phones in an effort to keep rates in check.”

Steve utilizes the Ting app to ensure his kids have access to mobile data but can’t accidentally use more than he has budgeted for.

“The handy Ting app allows quick and easy access to device options and gives parental visibility to who and when kids are texting or talking to. Accidents happen, so I have the kids on 200 MB limits in case an application is accidently ignored. If they need it back on it’s as simple as flipping a switch in the Ting app.”

“My kids are older and there are reasons for the modern teen to have access to data. This gives them a chance to be responsible and be given a smartphone that helps them in school and provides some cool convenience without breaking the bank.”

Don lives in Charlottesville, VA and has been a Ting mobile customer for over two and a half years. Back then, Don started looking into alternate carriers and realized he was overpaying each month for his cell phone service.

“I initially chose Ting because it was going to be cheaper. I took a look at my Sprint bill and determined that I’d be paying half as much with Ting….so I switched and it was definitely cut in half! I immediately went from $140 a month down to around $70 for two devices on Ting.”

Since making the switch to Ting, Don and his wife have been using their phones more than ever before.

“I upgraded to a Nexus 5 and got my wife on a smartphone for the first time, so we started using more data. We’re still within the 500 MB bucket though, so we’re comfortable using what we need to use and focusing on Wi-Fi when it’s available.”

He had heard of Ting’s parent company, Tucows from our original software download website back in the early days of the Internet.

“I called support one time and learned more about what you were doing. It was very cool to find out Ting was Tucows. Ting has been very friendly with good service – it really is a human company.”

“And now Ting supporting multiple carriers is great. The fact that I can activate two SIMs and switch to GSM if the CDMA signal is poor is super cool!”
