The world of smartphones moves fast. It seems like only yesterday that Samsung was announcing the release of its latest, greatest model: The Samsung Galaxy S5.
These days, the Galaxy S5 is a few years old, and so it’s probably not going to get any oohs and aahs from your friends and coworkers anymore. However, Samsung’s Galaxy S5 is still a great phone. It has some powerful specs to its name and offers some clear advantages over its successors at a significantly lower price.
Here’s five reasons why the Galaxy S5 is still a great smartphone choice.
One of the biggest selling points of the Galaxy S5 was and still is its battery. To begin with, it’s removable, which means you can bring an extra battery along for the ride and replace it in a snap. Switching batteries is not possible in either the Galaxy S6 and S7.
At 2800 mAh (milliamp hours), it’s also larger than the battery in the Galaxy S6, and according to some reviews, lasts longer as well.
Say goodbye to storage limits. The Galaxy S5 has a microSD card slot that’s perfect for bringing music, games and movies anywhere you go. This feature has been removed from the majority of flagship phones nowadays, including the Galaxy line, Pixel and iPhone.
Now that the Galaxy S5 has been out for over than three years, you can buy it at a serious discount. Right now, a refurbished model will cost you only $243 in the Ting shop. No matter black or white, or which network you’re on – we’ve likely got you covered on any one of our three coast-to-coast LTE networks.
If you find a better bargain elsewhere online, just make sure that the phone is compatible with Ting by using our instant phone compatibility checker.
The Galaxy S5 has an IP67 certification rating, which means that it’s completely protected against dust and can be submerged in up to one meter of water for 30 minutes. This is the same rating given to Apple’s iPhone 7–which will cost you about four times more. On the other hand, the Galaxy S6 didn’t receive an IP rating at all.
If you also want to protect your phone from scrapes, falls and just day-to-day handling, rest assured that you’ll be in good hands with the Galaxy S5. Since the S5 has been out for a few years, it’s easy to find a wide variety of phone case options at a bargain price on Amazon and other online retailers.
