On March 20, 2019, Ting flipped the switch at an event to light the fiber network here in Fuquay-Varina. The crazy fast fiber network is officially live in Fuquay-Varina.
If you’re among those in Fuquay-Varina that now have access to the fastest Internet around, we hope you’re enjoying your Ting connection so far. If not, stay tuned. This lighting event was the culmination of an incredible amount of work by Ting and most especially, the team here in Fuquay-Varina. It’s exciting to see what Ting and the Town of Fuquay-Varina have partnered to create and it means a lot to see so many months of work come together with better Internet for Fuquay-Varina homes and businesses.
The event kicked off with a couple remarks from Todd Rubin, Ting City Manager and we got to hear from John W. Byrne, Mayor of Fuquay-Varina too.
“Wow, who would’ve thought this would happen here in Fuquay-Varina,” John said. “Many businesses now operate out of their homes, and it is essential that they’re able to communicate in a quick and efficient way.”
What better Internet means for Fuquay-Varina
Ting crazy fast fiber Internet means a lot more than streaming and surfing and gigabit speeds (though it definitely means that). It means people can do more on the Internet today and innovate for tomorrow.
Take, Kevin Wofford, for instance. We lit his home up at the ceremony. Kevin is an engineer and works from home.
“I’ve always had a passion for fast cars, I like to go fast. When I first heard of Ting’s crazy fast Internet speeds, I knew that I had to have it,” said Kevin. “What I never expected was Ting’s prompt professional and courteous employees. Even the real live people that I got as soon as I called the customer service line have been amazing. If you’re anything like me and you like to go crazy fast, you’ll love Ting.”
Kevin works from home and telecommutes to work. Getting a high-quality video chat going is crucial to him communicating effectively. Having a steady, reliable and fast Internet connection just makes his day run that much more smoothly. Now, he doesn’t have to worry about buffering, choppy connections and missing important information on those calls. What’s more, he can upload and download files in seconds, sharing and collaborating with others anywhere.
Plans and progress so far
Ting construction of the fiber network began in July of 2018, and has since expanded to include four phases of development in Fuquay-Varina. Now that the network is lit, Ting will continue lighting customers in Alston Ridge and the rest of Phase 1. Ting plans to continue building beyond our current four Phases. We post construction updates every two months on the Ting Fuquay-Varina blog.
Why is fiber Internet important?
Fiber is the great equalizer, bringing much-needed Internet speed, reliability and bandwidth to US homes and businesses. Most American towns and cities rely on old copper networks which were built for phone and TV, not for the Internet. Fiber brings communities up to speed and allows residents and businesses to innovate and compete globally in industries like healthcare, technology, engineering, education and so much more.
