Gameday just got better.
Ting is proud to announce that we’ve wired Scott Stadium at The University of Virginia with free, Ting powered Wi-Fi.
Free Wi-Fi for ‘Hoos fans is the result of a huge, collaborative partnership between Ting and UVA Athletics. Our teams have been hard at work all summer long, installing a state of the art, cutting-edge Wi-Fi system for fans to enjoy.
Just in time for the season, you can now share and snap your ‘Hoos experience at Scott Stadium with free Ting Wi-Fi. Fans at Scott Stadium can connect to the Ting network via Ting@UVAAthletics beginning at UVA’s Homecomings game against Miami on Saturday, Oct. 13. Kickoff is set for 7 pm.
A state of the art system
The entire Scott Stadium network was built from the ground up. The Stadium now holds the equivalent of 10 Ting gigabit connections to power Wi-Fi through the stands and the lawn. Fans will have the absolute best possible experience on Scott Stadium Wi-Fi, and also be able to see the kind of speed and reliability Ting can offer on a Wi-Fi connection.
Ting is now able to offer a seamless wireless experience, from the moment fans walk through the gates, all the way up to sitting in their seats.
For the tech types out there, we thought you might want to hear a little about the specs.
168 access points, 5Ghz wireless exclusively and over a mile of cabling. That’s what it took to bring reliable, high-performance Wi-Fi to all of Scott Stadium.
With 168 access points precisely placed, we’re able to provide the coverage needed for tens of thousands of fans. By using 5Ghz wireless only, we could ensure fans will get the fastest and most reliable wireless experience.
Partnering with UVA Athletics
Whether it’s the medical field or athletics, UVA is always looking to be at the forefront of technology and its ability to improve the people’s experience and provide a better service. They set a high bar for us on this project and through our partnerships, hard work and crazy fast network, we believe that Scott Stadium will be a model for other universities to follow.
“We are excited for the partnership with Ting and the opportunity this provides to improve the game day experience for our fans,” Virginia athletics director Carla Williams said. “Based on survey data and fan feedback, we knew adding Wi-Fi was a priority. The team at Ting worked hard to make this project happen in a short period of time. We look forward to our fans enjoying Wi-Fi and sharing their experiences at Scott Stadium.”
A big thanks to UVA from all of us at Ting for being an awesome community partner. As Ting IT Manager Caleb Ward put it, “you do not get a bigger stage, or a better partner, in Charlottesville than the University of Virginia Athletics. This state of the art network represents a new standard in stadium wireless and sets the bar for what’s possible.”
