We know fiber is still a new and emerging tech and with it can come a lot of questions like, when do I get it? So, we’ve rounded up some of the questions we hear the most. Hopefully, you’ll see a few on the list that you want to be answered.
If you don’t, or if you’re looking for more detailed information, don’t hesitate to reach out to our team at 562-382-8245 or submit a request.
Q: Why should I pick Ting over a traditional telecom provider?
At Ting, we do things a little differently than Internet Service Providers (ISPs) you’ve probably dealt with in the past. For one, everywhere we go, we provide a symmetrical gigabit of service, that’s 1,000 Mbps upload and download.
Internet access speeds from traditional telecoms seem to become less and less adequate with each passing day. We think the packages they offer are at best, a stall tactic while they try to squeeze every penny out of aging copper networks that were never designed with the Internet in mind and at worst, they are an exercise in obfuscation.
If you choose to pick Ting in Fullerton, you’ll get real fiber Internet with crazy fast speeds for $79/mo. What’s more, we’ll treat you like a human being. We don’t lock you into a contract or plan and if Ting’s not for you, you can leave whenever you want. Our team is available to help by chat, email, tweet or call so you can make the most of your gigabit connection. We’ve never raised our prices in any of the other Ting Towns where we work and we don’t plan to.
Q: Why should I pre-order Ting?
A residential pre-order costs $9 and is refundable at any time. Your pre-order will get you a free installation (which costs $29) plus a $50 credit on your first bill.
A business pre-order costs $9 and is refundable at any time as well. Your business pre-order will get you a free installation (which costs $59) plus an $80 credit on your first bill.
Q: When should I expect service for my home/business?
SiFi Networks will work through several stages of fiber deployment before you can get installed with Ting Internet. They’ll be working in neighborhoods in Fullerton to build a network infrastructure that will bring fiber directly to addresses. This network will connect homes and businesses in Fullerton to the Internet at large.
SiFi has a FAQ section on their website where you can get your construction questions answered. You can also find ongoing updates on the Ting blog. On the main News section of your town, you’ll find a tab called “Fullerton updates.” You can always bookmark this section and return to see the latest update as well as a backlog of all our other updates.
Q: What is the difference between home gigabit and business gigabit?
These two plans provide the same speeds (up to 1000 Mbps upload and download), while the home option is for locations zoned residential and the business option is for locations zoned commercial. The business gigabit option is priced differently than home gigabit as businesses typically have more extensive installation and service needs.
Q: What kind of speeds can I expect?
At Ting, we’re transparent about Internet speed. Our gigabit speed (1000 Mbps up/down) is a wired-in speed. Today’s wireless tech, like your router, is not currently capable of gigabit speeds. Your expected speeds (and compatible tech used to get these speeds) can be found here.
Q: What equipment do you provide, and what do I need?
We offer two pieces of equipment. A small fiber modem called an Optical Network Terminal (ONT) paired with a separate dual-band wireless router. The ONT is provided by Ting at no additional cost to you. Any equipment costs will be for the wireless router.
Your options for the router are:
- A one-time $199 purchase (comes with an 18-month warranty)
- $9/month ongoing rental
- $0/month BYOR (Bring Your Own Router)
If you’re bringing your own router, remember that we supply the ONT and you pair it with your compatible router. The one drawback of bringing your own router is our troubleshooting options become limited as we would only be able to see and diagnose issues up to the ONT. Also, your router might not be capable of gigabit speeds. You can refer to this list of routers that are compatible with Ting gigabit Internet.
Q: What are the monthly costs?
Up to 1,000 Mbps upload, 1,000 Mbps download
Up to 1000 Mbps upload, 1000 Mbps download
There are no taxes on the monthly plan in any of the states. There is, however, sales tax on the one-time purchase of our wireless router, or on the monthly $9 rental fee.
Q: How much does it cost to be installed?
A home installation is $29 and a business installation is $59. When you pre-order Ting before the deadline, you’ll get a free installation plus a credit for your first bill.
