A Ting internship with McDaniel College

Ting Works

Showcasing our community initiatives and involvement across our Ting Towns.

Ting Westminster internship

Practical, hands-on career experiences can make all the difference for students when it comes to building a set of hard skills to support their post-grad endeavors.

Ting Internet was excited to host Michael N. for a writing internship in Westminster, MD. Michael was a student in Josh Ambrose’s class at McDaniel College, Writing for Main Street.

Ting Westminster internshipMichael had the chance to write for the Ting Westminster blog for the fall semester from September to December 2017. He covered local events as well as customer features, and assembled his work into fun blog posts to be distributed on social media.

Ting was involved in several initiatives and Michael got to cover our involvement at Fallfest and the Oyster Stroll. His customer profiles featured Ting Internet customers and detailed the practical uses of fiber internet in day-to-day life.

We’re proud to host interns like Michael and had a fantastic time working with him to produce some great online content.

Why you should pre-order Ting

pre-order Ting

There are a bunch of factors that determine where we continue to build out the fiber network in Holly Springs. Some of these factors include distance from the fiber “backbone,” space to build a local node and existing construction plans.

There’s one factor that neighborhoods and individuals get a real say in and that’s pre-orders.

All things considered equally, pre-orders play a role in determining where we build fiber next.

Building a fiber network involves a lot of hard work and investment, and while we wish we could build everywhere at once, we do look to demand to help shape our expansion plans.

This post will catch you up on the construction Ting has been up to over the last few months in Holly Springs. We’ve been hard at work this year and have fully completed Phase 2 of our network build, with the additional completion of one neighborhood in Phase 3.

We’re now building out Phase 4A and B neighborhoods.

Rapid prototyping: 3D printers can do that

rapid prototyping

What is rapid prototyping?

Prototyping a product used to take months and cost tens of thousands of dollars. 3D printers, like you might find in a local makerspace or even a library, cut that down to hours and pennies.

When businesses are coming up with new design ideas or product, they often look to prototypes and scale models to test out their vision in the real world. While advanced, manufacturer-ready prototypes still cost a lot in terms of dollars and days. 3D printers have made rapid prototyping and creating proof of concept scale models accessible to even the most bootstrapped startup, student or budding artist.

Even with today’s admittedly rudimentary 3D “consumer level” printing technology, a model or a part can be turned from a digital design into a physical thing quickly and for just a few cents per gram of media needed to print. Quick real-world testing helps refine the design and planning phases of the product cycle, whatever the 3D printed model may be.
