In our Sandpoint progress reports, we offer as much information as we possibly can on the fiber network build process. We’ll also talk about Ting events, promotions and some of the work we’re doing in the Sandpoint community. Check back regularly to keep up to date on the latest.
In our last update we announced where Phase 2 construction would take place here in Sandpoint. A lot has happened since we last spoke, and we’ve started lighting up our first fiber customers in Phase 1.
The first Ting Internet customers in Sandpoint
We lit up our first Ting customers in Sandpoint on June 6, 2018. We celebrated with speeches, refreshments from Evans Brothers Coffee and Tango Cafe, and by turning the network on with a novelty switch constructed at local makerspace, MakerPoint Studios. It’s worth mentioning that such a switch doesn’t actually activate the Ting network. But it was a nice visual aid, if we do say so ourselves.
The lighting event was the culmination of an incredible amount of work by the Ting team and most especially, the team here in Sandpoint. Speakers included Mayor Shelby Rognstad, Elliot Noss, CEO of Ting, Kate McAlister, CEO and President, Greater Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce and Jennifer Stapleton, City Administrator.
Phase 1 installations
We’ll be connecting businesses and residents that pre-ordered service in Phase 1 over the next few months. If you’ve pre-ordered, expect a call to book your installation appointment.
If you’re in Phase 1 and want Ting, go to ting.com/sandpoint.
The deadline to pre-order Ting in Phase 1 and secure your installation discount is August 15.
Phase 2 construction
In our last update, we announced where we’d be expanding the Ting fiber build.
If you live in Phase 2, look out for notice by mail about what to expect from construction and what it will look like in your neighborhood.
Don’t forget to pre-order Ting. A pre-order costs $9 and is refunded to you as credit on your first bill. When you pre-order Ting gigabit, you’ll get $200 off your startup costs. That covers the full cost of installation!
Ting around town
We threw a party for Phase 1. Thanks to everyone who came out. It was a lot of fun despite the rainy weather, with touch-a-truck, food trucks, face painting, fun photos and games.
In June, we also partnered with MakerPoint Studios to help provide scholarships for kids to attend a Ting-kering camp. We were a sponsor for this year’s Chafe 150 ride on June 16 which benefits the local school district. We volunteered at the Chamber Summer Sampler on June 28 and loved meeting everyone as well as sampling some of the finest small bites and beverages in town.
We were in the Fourth of July parade and were a sponsor at Jacey’s Race on July 8. We’ve had a ton of fun around town in these last couple months. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the summer brings.
