CWIT advances girls and women in STEM subjects and careers
There’s no shortage of interest among women and girls in science, tech, engineering and math (STEM) subjects. Yet women continue to be underrepresented in these fields and markets.
That’s the issue Charlottesville Women in Tech and Tech-Girls seeks to address. Their vision is to bridge the gender gap in tech through educational programing, established networks and career resources.
CWIT and Tech-Girls provide a welcoming environment for girls and women in tech to connect, learn and collaborate.
CWIT and Tech-Girls
CWIT is an organization for students and emerging and established professionals. CWIT provides networking opportunities and resources for women and girls interested in or associated with technology and the tech industry.
Established in 2014, CWIT currently hosts monthly meetings with speakers on tech topics and facilitates networking opportunities with local women. Events are free and open to all women in the community.
In 2015 CWIT joined forces with Tech-Girls, an organization that provides learning experiences and programming for girls and women to begin their journey in STEM subjects and careers and stay in the career pipeline. The organization provides after school and summer programming and learning opportunities to girls ages 11 to 14. CWIT also offers opportunities for high school aged students and women to gain the skills necessary to develop careers in tech.
For more information or to get involved, visit the CWIT website and register to attend their next meeting.
Sponorship from Ting Internet
Ting Internet is a proud partner of CWIT and Tech-Girls. In the fall of 2017, Ting committed to providing $10,000 in annual funding to support CWIT’s mission to address underrepresentation of women STEM careers in the Charlottesville area.
With sponsorship from Ting, CWIT will extend program capacity and resources. Programs include CWIT’s Tech-Girls events and the YES, We Tech Summit in the fall of 2018.
Sponsorship and community involvement are a central part of our work at Ting Internet. We seek out community and city partnerships to build and service fiber optic networks for a digital world. Ting sponsors local programs, events, foundations, festivals, charities and public services and invests in the future of the towns we serve.
“As a tech company, in a growing tech community, we value the programming that Charlottesville Women in Tech provides to our local community,” said Drew Hurst, Ting Internet Marketing Manager. CWIT provides hands on learning opportunities to girls and provides training and fellowship for women breaking into or advancing in STEM field careers. CWIT has accomplished so much in the short time they have been established and we are confident that our sponsorship will allow them to increase their programming in the Charlottesville area.
