In our Westminster progress reports we offer as much information as we possibly can on the fiber network build process. We’ll also talk about Ting events, promotions and some of the work we’re doing in the Westminster community. Check back regularly to keep up to date on the latest.

In our last update, we talked about the progress the city was making in Phase 3 of the network build. Today, we’re excited to report that the very first customers in Phase 3 have been lit up with crazy fast fiber Internet.

Phase 3 is lit: fiber comes to Downtown

The first customers in Phase 3 to get fiber got lit in June! We are currently installing residential customers in the area surrounding W. Green and Chase Streets where construction has wrapped up.

Construction is still underway in Phase 3 and the city is hard at work. If you’re in Phase 3 and have pre-ordered Ting, you can expect a call to book your installation in the coming months.

We captured the second Central Office of the Westminster Fiber Network getting installed in Phase 3 in June. Crazy fast fiber has officially landed in Downtown.

The central office or CO is where the fiber switching smarts live. This is where all network traffic is sent to and received from the larger Internet and routed. If you’ve ever seen a server room, it looks a lot like that; thousands of wires and fiber strands coming into the structure and getting connected to high tech equipment, mounted in tall metal racks.

If you’ve never seen a server room, think about your home’s main electrical panel. A centralized unit routing power behind the walls, all over your house so that you can flip a switch and have light without even thinking about it.

Order Ting today!

Phase 3 can order Ting Internet to get the fastest Internet around after all pre-orders have been fulfilled.

What’s up next? Phase 4.

The city will start construction on Phase 4 as soon as work wraps up in Phase 3. Work in Phase 4 is currently scheduled to get started in the fall of 2018.

How do I get Ting?

Go to ting.com/westminster and enter your address. If we’re not ready to install your address yet you can pre-order Ting. If we’re live in your neighborhood, you’ll be prompted to order Ting.

In either case, you’ll have to fill out an access agreement. You’ll be able to do this right from our website when you’re going through the pre-order or order process.

An access agreement gives the city and its contractors permission to bring a fiber drop to your home or business. A fiber drop is the last bit of fiber that gets you connected directly to the network.

You can start your fiber process at accessagreement.com. Once your address is ready for fiber, the city will bring the fiber drop to be installed at your property when you decide to purchase Ting services.

Ting around town

This summer, we began our sponsorship of kids day at the Westminster Farmers Market. We’ll be at the market every second and fourth Saturday morning until November 10 providing activities and games for kids to play while their parents shop.

We also hosted a Chamber of Commerce business happy hour where we were able to meet with local businesses and learn how we can better meet their Internet needs.

Ting is the presenting sponsor of the Carroll Arts Center Film Series. We’ll have a table at several of the free CCAC film series nights so come out and say hello. The next two films we’ll be at are Princess Bride on July 24 and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales on August 7. We hope to see you there!

Follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for all the latest news and updates about the fiber network and events we’ll be at!
