Westminster construction update
This post will catch you up on the construction status of the fiber network in Westminster and let you know what areas can currently get crazy fast fiber Internet from Ting.
Ting completed constructing, installing and lighting of a new a new redundant backhaul connection for the Westminster Fiber Network.
A redundant backhaul connection is basically an alternate route to the larger Internet. It’s what will prevent unavoidable infrastructure issues (like an accidentally severed line) by providing a detour that Internet traffic can use. A redundant backhaul accepts the overflow in the case the main highway is closed because of an accident.
What we’ve been up to
The following network build phases have fiber optic Internet service and can get connected to the network today.
If you live in these areas, you can order Ting gigabit or Ting 10/10 service and get the fastest Internet around. There are two things you have to do to get connected to the network; first, sign your access agreement and then sign up for Ting.
What’s up next: Phase 3
In Phase 3, the network will expand to Downtown Westminster. Construction will start in early 2018 in the west end of Downtown. We currently anticipate that we’ll start lighting up Downtown Westminster in mid-2018.
Remember, if you live or work in Phase 3 and you want crazy fast Internet, you have to do two things:
Don’t miss out: pre-order Ting
If you’re located in Phase 3 and want fiber Internet, pre-order Ting today. A pre-order costs $9 and comes with perks.
Ting Internet customers can refer their friends, family and neighbors to Ting. Score free service for every successful referral and give your friends and family a discount on Ting gigabit or Ting 10/10.
Community events and updates
We have had an exciting past few months with the community. From Fallfest to the Oyster Stroll, there wasn’t a dull moment in the city.
We were proud to be presenting sponsors for Westminster’s Fallfest. We had a Ting float at the Thursday parade and opened the Ting Experience Center during Midnight Madness.
Our Makerspace received a group of students from McDaniel College and Boy Scout Troop 393.
We also hosted an Oyster Dish Design Challenge competition at our Ting Makerspace. Winners were selected at the Oyster Stroll and won some sweet gift cards to the RockSalt Grille as well as passes to The Ting Makerspace.
