We’ve recently had a few people reach out on our social media asking questions about the Ting Mobile team like “Who are you?” “What makes you tick?” and “How are you so amazing at your job?”
(Okay, so we made that last one up, but you get the idea.)
These questions made us realize something. We’ve never really introduced ourselves!
How rude of us.
To make up for our terrible manners, we decided to sit down with some of the Ting Mobile team, from all different areas of the business, and ask a few questions so that you can get to know some of the great individuals who work behind the scenes here at Ting Mobile.
So, without us giving anything else away, meet Jesse.
Well stranger, what is your name?
What do you do at Ting Mobile?
I currently manage Sponsorships and Strategic Partnerships at Ting Mobile. Previously, I was on the Content team writing blog posts, site copy and managing our social media channels, that sorta thing.
How long have you worked at Ting Mobile?
Just over seven years!
Wow, that’s almost as long as we’ve been in business! We think it’s safe to say Jesse is a real OG.
Do you prefer Android or iOS?
Android for life!
What phone are you currently using?
What’s your favorite phone that you’ve ever owned? What made it stand out to you?
Nexus 4. It was the first powerful smartphone I got my hands on (it genuinely felt like I had a computer in my hand) and was honestly the perfect size and form factor. I still have flashbacks to the day I dropped it in my bathroom and destroyed the screen… R.I.P.
Ah yes, the Nexus 4, made back in the early 2010s, before phones started being made for people with gigantic hands.
Do you prefer TV shows or movies?
More of a TV show guy, I love sitcoms like Community, Parks and Rec and The Good Place.
What’s your perfect Sunday?
Beach volleyball followed by a beer on a patio. Then, some multiplayer video gaming at night!
What’s your dream holiday destination, and why?
Surfing in Portugal. What else is there to explain?
Completely fair, he had us at “surfing.”
Are you an early bird or a night owl?
Definitely a night owl. No matter how much I tire myself out, I’m not falling asleep before 12:30AM.
What hobbies/interests ignite your passion?
Music and concerts, sports, video games, watching eSports, TV shows, books, burgers, hanging with friends and family (and my cat), beers, traveling.
Quite the list! “Burgers” has to be the best answer in there, just saying.
What are your worst peeves?
Putting a double space after a period. I think I have a bit of a knack for copy editing so I always notice double spaces and it irritates me to no end.
Wow, Jesse really isn’t going to like reading this article then. Is he?
If you could only use one app again, what would it be?
Probably reddit. Although, in this day and age I’m not able to attend any concerts, so I’d probably choose Spotify if I didn’t have the opportunity to hear live music.
What’s the one app that you should really remove from your phone, and why?
Instagram, because it’s a highlight reel of people’s lives that makes you compare yourself to others.
Too right and to think, Jesse answered these questions before Instagram Reels came out. Coincidental choice of words or visions of the future? You decide.
What’s your favorite part of your job?
There’s a lot to love about my job, but my favorite thing would probably be sponsoring eSports, and Neeb specifically. He’s one of the best StarCraft 2 players in the world (the greatest American ever), and has won over $500,000 in prize money including many Premier World Championship StarCraft tournaments. As a huge fan of the StarCraft 2 professional scene, it’s a pleasure to be a part of this amazing community, and the support they’ve given us over the years has been amazing.
What’s your most memorable experience working at Ting Mobile?
There have been so many memorable experiences it’s hard to remember them all! Some of my favorites include attending TwitchCon 2018 as an event sponsor, sponsoring the Classic Tetris World Championships at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo, appearing on NBC to talk about the iPhone 11 (I actually met Jimmy Fallon there too), creating the Ting subreddit, working with YouTubers like Linus Tech Tips, Twitch streamers like Kripparrian and so much more!
Yikes, that’s a lot. I guess after seven years working on a brand you love, you’re bound to make some memories. We’ll give Jesse a pass…this time.
Which do you hope gets invented first? Robot butlers or hoverboards?
Hoverboards for sure. Surfing in the air? Sign me up.
What do you hope your phone will be able to do by 2050?
I want my smartphone to be implanted in my contacts so I can control it with my brain!
Ah yeah, of course, nothing special then.
If aliens contacted us and asked us to send one person to represent humanity, who would you pick and why?
Nick Offerman, because I think he’s one of the funniest comedians out there, and also an all-around great person. He is the man!
He sure is, I mean it’s right there in the name.
So, there you have it, the first in our series where we give you the chance to get to know the Ting Mobile team a little better.
Who would you like to hear from next? What parts of our business interest you the most? Be sure to let us know in the comments section below, and we’ll get right to it.
