Our guide on how to limit Facebook data usage
What seems to be the last major app to implement a data saving feature, Facebook is finally rolling out a way to help reduce the amount of mobile data used when browsing in the app on your smartphone. In this Ting Tip, we’re going to show you how to limit Facebook data usage in the updated Facebook app.
Enable Data Saver
Enabling Data Saver in the settings menu will lower the resolution of photos you’ll see in your Facebook feed as well as disabling autoplay videos inside the app (learn more: Android | iOS). In the long run, though, you’ll wind up saving not only data, but dollars.
According to Android Police this feature is currently only available to some Android users. Wondering if you’re in luck? Make sure the Facebook app is updated and have a look through the Menu section.
While Data Saver isn’t currently available on iOS, it’s safe to assume it’ll be rolled out to everyone on both platforms at some point in the near future. We’ll update this article when the feature arrives!
Android instructions are listed directly below.
Restrict Facebook data usage on Android
Open the Facebook app (and make sure it’s updated), tap the Menu tab and search for Data Saver under Help & Settings. Turn on the switch and let the savings begin.
