Westminster build-out and makerspace updates

ting_westminster_map_4-5

Physical construction of the fiber network in Westminster is already underway. While progress has been swift, as these things go, laying a fiber network isn’t quite as simple as, say, configuring a wireless router. Go figure!

We want to keep you in the loop with the fiber network roll-out in your town. It’s not an exact science and, like predicting the weather, the further down the line you look, the more difficult to pin down things can become. With that frame in mind, here is the first of the monthly updates we’ll deliver here on the Ting Westminster page.

The journey of 1000 megabits…

Ting Internet customers are already online in the pilot phase of the network. We’re now ready to move beyond and further into Westminster proper.

Phase 1

Areas affected

  • Bolton Hill
  • Cliveden Reach
  • Village of Meadow Creek
  • Whispering Meadows
The City of Westminster has been accepting bids for construction of Phase 1. We’re still awaiting specific details. As soon as we receive them, we’ll be able to report more accurate timeframes.

The most recent information we have is that the plan to break ground for the network backbone is around the middle of June.

Fiber drops (for which you need to sign an access agreement, that’s important) will follow shortly thereafter. All signs currently point to installing fiber in the first the homes in Phase 1 in Q4 of this year.

Phase 2

Areas affected

  • The Greens
  • Stoneridge Overlook
  • Eagle View Estates
  • Furnace Hills
  • Fernby Farm
  • Avondale Run
  • Wakefield Valley
Phase 2 of the network build will begin as Phase 1 nears completion. Timeframes are much harder to pin down but please stay tuned; the Ting Westminster city page is the best place to find updates.

You can also follow us on Facebook and on Twitter for regular updates on the ground.

Ting Makerspace: Westminster

In other exciting news, we’ve just celebrated the grand opening of the inaugural Ting Makerspace called, appropriately, Ting Makerspace: Westminster. This community resource is equipped with a 3D printer, a CNC router, and a laser etching and cutting machine. There are Arduino boards, soldering irons and everything one might need to experiment with a computer or electronics project. The workshop will be open and available to the public this fall. Updates to come.

Sign the City of Westminster agreement

If you think you may want fiber Internet. Even if you’re on the fence. It behooves you to sign the City of Westminster’s fiber access agreement.

Not to put too fine a point on it but if the team installing fiber drops passes you by and you decide later that you might want fiber, you’re going be waiting for quite some time.

A signed access agreement lets the City install a fiber drop on your property. It costs nothing and it in no way obligates you to get service from Ting.
