Migration from RingPlus to Ting is complete.Authenticate your Number
tl;dr: RingPlus members: Your phone number will automatically move to Ting next week. We think you’ll like it here. Ting customers spend $6-$12 a month for an emergency phone. Our full-blown smartphone users average just $23 per month.
If you want to leave, we won’t stand in your way; porting out will be as easy as signing up.
No action is required at this time. Just watch your email early next week for the next steps.
This is pretty long for a tl;dr.
Dear former RingPlus member,
We realize this isn’t an easy time. You’re probably still unpacking your feelings. Anger. Confusion. Fear. Hunger. Scratch that last one.
Whatever got RingPlus to the place where our mutual carrier partner felt compelled to pull the plug, we’re here to help. We’ve struck a deal with your former carrier and prevailed on Sprint’s good nature (or was that Sprint’s good business sense?) to move all displaced RingPlus customers over to Ting.
Assuming you haven’t already ported your number away from RingPlus, it will soon be safe with Ting. If you choose to take us up on our offer, which we’ll talk about in a sec, you’ll join the ranks of happy Ting customers paying a fair price for whatever usage levels you reach each month.
It’s not the sexiest business model out there, we grant you that. It does have the distinct advantage of being sustainable.
If you choose not to stick with Ting, that’s your call. We’re not holding your number hostage: You’re free to go wherever you like. Obvious biases aside, we think you should stick around. Here’s why.
Ting’s offer to RingPlus customers
We’re offering every RingPlus customer $35 to get started with Ting. In the majority of cases, that more than covers the value of the top-ups on a RingPlus account. We’ve got a plan for outliers too.
Customers with more than $35 in RingPlus top-ups active on their account as of February 5, 2017 will receive a full $35 credit they can start using right away. The remainder of the top-up balance will be delivered as $5 credits every month until exhausted. For example, if you had $50 in top-ups on your RingPlus account, you’d receive a one-time $35 account credit then $5 each month after that for three months.
Why stick with Ting?
As a former RingPlus member, you get that there are mobile choices beyond the Big Four. Given that you signed up to be a RingPlus member, we can assume that you’re game for mobile service that defies traditional plans.
On Ting, you don’t pick a plan. You just use what you need each month and then pay a fair price for whatever you used. Data is $10 per GB beyond the first with low-use options no other carrier would likely bother to offer. With Ting, nothing is assumed: If you don’t use any voice minutes, for example, you don’t pay for any voice minutes.
Take a look at the Ting Rates page. Remember that your usage each month determines what level you reach for minutes, messages and data. You start each month at 0; you don’t need to pick or pre-pay for a plan.
If you’re sticking to a budget, tools in the Ting account control panel let you set usage alerts or even hard caps for your account or any individual phone that’s on it.
How it works
We’ve created a Ting account for every RingPlus member. Next week, you will receive an email from Ting inviting you to go through the process to get a new password and login to your account. We’ve put this protection in place to ensure that you, and only you, can make decisions relating to your phone number.
Once you’ve associated a password with your number, you’ll have the option to get started with Ting. If you’ve already decided you’re going elsewhere, you’ll also find the information you’ll need to port your number presented front and center.
If you decide to give Ting a try, you’ll need to enter a credit card and agree to our Terms of Service. Have a read. You’ll find they’re written in Human.
Your credits will be automatically applied to your Ting account. It may not happen immediately but you will certainly have your credit well in advance of your first Ting bill.
If you take us up on our offer, you don’t need to go through any kind of porting or activation processes: Once your Ting account is active, so is your phone and, if applicable, the SIM card therein.
All that is to say…
Try Ting. You’ve got nothing to lose and we think you’ll like how we do things.
