Let’s fix that for Ting on a GSM network now.
tl;dr: We’re on track to launch Ting on a GSM network in late February. The full GSM FAQ is in our knowledge base. We’re slowly inviting people into the early beta phases now. If you want to get all the news as it hits, sign up for email updates at the bottom of this post.
The Ting crew has been busy working to make Ting on a GSM network a reality.
Our first batch of X1 SIM cards has arrived in Starkville, Mississippi. We’ve been testing Ting service across a wide array of devices since early December, but finally seeing our name in bright lights in the top left corner of a GSM smartphone was pretty exciting. (What can we say? We’re geeks.)
Later this week, we’ll start emailing small batches of folks with a unique link to get their very own Ting GSM X1 SIM. If you haven’t already, get on our GSM update list (at the bottom of this post). Based on the sheer number of people that have signed up so far, it will take us a few weeks to get further instructions and ultimately invitations, out to everyone. Please bear with us!
As things progress with our early test volunteers, we’ll be inviting cohorts of beta testers from the GSM update list. If you already have your SIM, you’ll be ready to go when your number gets called (as it were).
If you’d rather play it safe and wait until after the beta to get started, we definitely understand. You can grab a SIM when your invitation comes and you’ll be ready for when Ting on a GSM network is a fully realized and supported thing. You can also pick up a Ting GSM SIM card in February once we’ve worked out any kinks. We’re doing our best to keep pace with demand and while we don’t foresee any issues on that front. That said, getting in early saves waiting for your SIM card to arrive in the mail once we’re live.
In the meantime, our development team continue to code until their fingers literally fall off, figuratively speaking. Our support folks are continuing to level up their GSM network knowledge. Our fulfillment team is polishing the gold contacts on every single SIM card. (Alright, I made that last part up… But we are working hard to make sure each SIM makes it promptly to you.)
There’s still plenty to keep us all busy over the coming weeks. We will be back with another update for you next week or early the following week on our launch timeline, but we’re absolutely on track for late February. Stay tuned!
